Chord8 ("we", "us", "our") operates the website chord8.com (formerly served at chordcolor.com, which now redirects). This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information when you use our service.
Chord8 is designed to work without requiring account creation, login, or registration. Your tuning preferences and theme settings are stored locally on your device using your browser's localStorage. As described below, bounded product events may include musical selections and product context, but not free-form user text.
We use Google Analytics and Vercel Analytics to understand how visitors interact with Chord8. These services collect usage data such as pages visited, session duration, device type, browser, and approximate geographic location. Google Analytics may use cookies to distinguish unique users. Chord8 also reports bounded exception messages when the app encounters a rendering error; the message is truncated and used to monitor app reliability. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Chord8 records bounded product events such as whether an exact-state link was received and applied, whether audio was successfully started, whether a lesson or practice loop was started or completed, and which type of content link was used. These events contain musical selections and product context such as instrument, root, chord quality, lesson slug, and elapsed time. They do not include AI question text, chat history, clipboard contents, email addresses, or other free-form text.
Chord8 may display advertisements through Google AdSense or similar advertising networks. These services may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to Chord8 or other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ad Settings or the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page.
When you connect a MIDI instrument to Chord8, all MIDI data (note on/off messages, channel data) is processed entirely within your browser. No MIDI data is transmitted to any server. The WebMIDI connection is between your device and your browser only.
Chord8 itself does not set cookies. However, third-party services we use (Google Analytics, advertising networks) may set cookies on your device. You can control cookie behavior through your browser settings.
Product and audience analytics data is retained according to the policies and configured retention periods of Google Analytics and Vercel Analytics. Your local preferences can be cleared at any time by clearing your browser's localStorage.
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you may have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). California residents may have rights under applicable California privacy law. Analytics providers may process data subject to these laws. You can manage Google Analytics through Google's Ad Settings or opt-out add-on, or contact us at hi@chasecolor.com with a data-related request. The consent and disclosure requirements that apply in a particular jurisdiction require owner/legal review.
Chord8 does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The service is a general-purpose music education tool available to users of all ages.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Your continued use of Chord8 after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
